New England Alpaca Tours is a group of three farms
who believe strongly in the Alpaca Industry, Alpaca
Education and Research. We're a Non-profit organization.
Our band of merry farms started under the principal of a small
"Marketing Coop". That focus quickly changed after we carefully
evaluated what we felt were the "needs" of New England alpaca
enthusiasts and those of our customers. We looked at the
educational opportunities available for current alpaca breeders and
prospective new alpaca owners. After careful evaluation we
decided that a rather large gap existed between what we felt should be
spent on Education and Research and what the reality was.
We decided to make Alpaca Education and Research the main goal of New
England Alpaca Tours.
We conducted our first series of seminars on October 14, 2001.
We brought in Dr. Larue Johnson, a well known expert in Alpaca reproduction.
Dr. Johnson conducted a full day hands on Neonatal clinic. Existing alpaca
farms as well as brand new alpaca owners from all over New England came for this
clinic. Everyone who participated had a great time while they learned
valuable information on the raising and breeding of alpacas.
Our current project is a rather LARGE one. New England
Alpaca Tours or NEAT has put together an Alpaca Show which will be one of the
largest shows on the east coast! You may be asking why a group dedicated
to alpaca education and research would put on an alpaca show? Well, you
won't be the first and certainly not the last. We've organized this show
with the guarantee that ALL proceeds from
the
North American Alpaca Show will be
donated to Alpaca organizations committed to Alpaca Education and Research.
We've selected two deserving organizations for this years show. They are
The
International Camelid Institute and
The New England Animal Health
Institute. This show is a large task to accomplish, but it's one
that all three of our farms are dedicated to.
NEAT will conduct more educational seminars throughout the year.
A full schedule of seminars and events will be posted to this site very soon.
In the mean time, should you have any questions about future seminars or
suggestions as to what those seminars could be, please don't hesitate to contact
one of the NEAT farms.
Sincerely,
